⚠️ Severe Staff Cuts Jeopardize Trail Management – The loss of federal trail administrators and planners means fewer people to oversee maintenance, protect landscapes, and manage public access. Without dedicated staff, long-term trail sustainability is at risk.
🚧 Hiring Freezes Block Progress on Trail Development – Federal agencies are unable to replace essential staff, halting progress on land acquisition, environmental compliance, and strategic planning for trail improvements. This leaves a backlog of work that may never be completed.
💰 Frozen Federal Funds Halt Trail Maintenance and Restoration – Even budgets that were previously allocated and approved by federal agencies have been put on hold, forcing organizations to cancel essential maintenance projects. Seasonal job offers were rescinded, and conservation corps programs are now at risk, leaving trails without the workforce needed to stay safe and accessible for visitors.
