The proposed federal FY26 budget includes devastating cuts to our national trails, parks, heritage areas, and public lands. Federal funding for the Washington Rochambeau National Historic Trail within the National Park Service may be eliminated entirely, as may funding to the all the other historic and scenic trails.
To fight against this, W3R-US is joining the Partnership for the National Trail System (PNTS) which has organized a day of action for the national trails next Monday on June 23. PNTS will be using all its communications channels as will the historic trail partners like W3R-US across the USA to urge our supporters to call/email their senators asking them to include trails. The PNTS community’s strength comes from our collective action, so we encourage you to join us on this day. This is not a partisan issue: national parks and trails have always enjoyed excellent bipartisan support.
Below are links to three documents: a fact sheet on the impacts of these cuts, an at home advocacy kit, and social media posts. Phone numbers and email addresses are provided to make it easy for you to make a call. Feel free to share these with your friends and neighbors or use any of the information for your own materials. This is an important day for all of us to use our collective voice and power to stand up for trails funding before the senate committee hearing takes place the following Wednesday. Thank you!
