The Sankofa Collaborative presents its final workshop of 2023 on Wednesday, October 11th, at the Grounds For Sculpture. Sponsored by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities and the New Jersey Historical Commission, the all-day workshop will focus on methods and sources for tracing African American history. Registration is required at https://sankofacollaborative.org/upcoming-programs and the $60 registration includes admission to the Grounds For Sculpture and meals.
The workshop will be introduced and moderated by Dr. Linda Caldwell Epps of 1804 Consultants and open with a dramatic presentation by actors from Luna Stage, based in the West Orange, NJ, Valley Arts District. Panel presentations will explore ways of learning about personal and cultural connections with Africa, tracing individual and family history and genealogy, and researching and documenting communities founded by African Americans.
The William Trent House Museum is a co-founder of the Collaborative, which held its first workshop in January 2017.
