Tavern Talk and Tour featuring Author Lyman Hall

Join us at the Rising Sun Inn, located at 1090 Generals Highway, Crownsville, on November 14, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., for the Tavern Talk and Tour Series.

This installment will feature Lyman Hall, author of The Stewards of West River: A Maryland Family During the American Revolution. A soldier, a prisoner of war, a hero – one of Maryland’s sons. Hear about John Steward, an Army Lieutenant, who served with the elite Maryland Line and fought in consequential battles throughout the American Revolution including Long Island, South Carolina, and Yorktown.

The Hall’s purchased the historic Norman’s Retreat, West River, MD in 1985 and archaelogists in 1992 discovered that the 25-acre site was a shipyard in the mid 1750’s, owned by Stephen Steward and operated as a partnership between Stephen Steward and Samuel Galloway. When the war began between England and the colonies Stephen Steward was hired to build a Navy by Maryland’s Council on Safety. On March 32, 1781, the British landed and burned the shipyard and Steward’s house.

The Stewards of West River will be available for purchase during the event with an opportunity to get your book signed. Purchase price: $20. A portion of each book sale will be donated to the Rising Sun Inn.

Following the lecture, book signing, enjoy light refreshments and a tour of the Inn including the newly restored second floor.
