Step back into 1781 with The Final Tolling of the Bells, a one-hour community theater production exploring the arrival of thousands of American and French troops in what was then Somerset Courthouse, now Millstone Borough, New Jersey. As the allied armies passed through the village on their march toward Yorktown, local residents found themselves witnessing a pivotal moment in the American Revolution.
Originally written by Vita Patrick Morales for Millstone Borough’s Bicentennial, the play returns in 2026 as part of the community’s 250th anniversary observances. The production will be performed at Hillsborough Reformed Church, which also serves as the historical setting of the story. Pastor Jeff Knol will portray Revolutionary-era pastor Solomon Froeligh, joined by Christopher Rice as wounded soldier Jacob Staats.
The performance offers visitors a chance to experience the history of a New Jersey Victory Town and connect with the communities that witnessed the American and French armies’ journey toward the decisive victory at Yorktown.
