At Baltimore the routes of Rochambeau’s infantry and of Lauzun’s Legion split. Breaking camp in Baltimore, Maryland, at 5:00 a.m. on September 14, 1781, the hussars reached Georgetown, then part of Maryland, on September 15, and crossed the Potomac. That evening they camped at an unknown location in Virginia, most likely, however, on the banks of the Potomac.
