East Jersey Old Town Village in Piscataway recently welcomed visitors for History Day, offering a vivid look at the people and places connected to the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail.
The event featured appearances by reenactors portraying General George Washington and General Rochambeau, along with dragoon Stephen Moylan and staff officer William Alexander, better known as Lord Stirling. Together, these figures helped bring the Revolutionary War era to life for visitors exploring one of New Jersey’s important historic communities.
W3R-NJ was also represented at the event by committee chair Mary Swarbrick and her sister, who welcomed visitors at the W3R table. In one memorable moment, Rochambeau himself stopped by the table, creating a fitting connection between the day’s living history programming and the broader story of the Franco-American alliance.
East Jersey Old Town Village holds a special place along the Trail. The Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route passes the village in Piscataway just before crossing the Raritan River into New Brunswick, linking the site directly to the historic march that helped lead to victory at Yorktown.
Through events like History Day, W3R-US and its partners continue to share the stories of the Trail with new audiences, connecting local communities to the larger Revolutionary War history that shaped the nation.
