John F. Mitchell

I am John Francis Mitchell and I am 76 years old. I have been a resident of East Norriton Township in Montgomery County PA for several years For the most part I grew up in State College Pennsylvania and attended  schools there. I graduated from State College High School in 1964 and received a BA degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1968. In 1983 I received a Master of Social Work Degree from Temple University.

I worked for almost 38 years for the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare primarily  as a psychiatric social worker with the PA State Hospital system Between 1997 and 2010  I was involved with assisting in the closure and/or  downsizing of four Pennsylvania state hospitals. I retired in 2005 and  returned to state service as an annuitant in 2005/2006  and 2010.

I have had an  interest in genealogy since childhood and have spent much time doing  my own research as well as research for friends.  I joined the Philadelphia Continental Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution in 2003 and within the past ten years have become more active serving as Registrar and holding various other offices. During the year 2020/2021 I served as President of Philadelphia Continental Chapter of the SAR. I also am an acting District 1 Deputy for PASSAR and chairman of the Public Service and Heroism Committee of PASSAR.

For several years I have served as President of the Board of Forteniters Inc which is a club like  organization based in Montgomery County PA  that  helps to provide users of mental health services in the community with various support services including a hosted dinner at least once a month.

Traveling around different parts of the world has become quite an interest of mine and I have journeyed to Egypt, Russia. China , South America , Cuba and several areas of Europe.

I am looking forward to my association with the W3R program.
