New Welcome Center in Brandywine Village, Wilmington DE Opening Soon

09/21/2026

The new Welcome Center in Brandywine Village, Wilmington DE, officially opens for visitors September 29/30. There are displays on the walls and other artifacts that bring out the historical significance of the flour mills and the beginnings of the creativity and innovation that spread across our nation.

Most important was the Tatnall Mills, holding U.S. Patent #3, that was responsible for feeding the Patriots on their march to Yorktown, VA., based on the promise that Joseph Tatnall made to George Washington: “I cannot fight for thee, but I can feed thee!”  Also housed within the Center is a new ‘first of its kind’ freestanding display of the whole Brandywine titled, “Rebirthing Our Nation”.  This display depicts how life evolved along the waters and waterway of the Brandywine and generated the ‘Soul of our Nation.’

‘Display Walkaround’ tours are being offered of this exhibit that are designed to inspire persons to ‘Live each day with a new spirit’ when they complete the visit!  Please allow one hour for these tours and related dialogue.
