PNTS Community,
The recent executive orders and actions by the Trump Administration have immediate and long-term impacts on the PNTS community. The funding & hiring freezes and other proposals have the potential to greatly impact the ability of the trails community to continue the critical work of maintaining and managing the National Trails System.
This past week, the Trail Leaders Council and Board of Directors held an emergency meeting to discuss how these decisions have impacted our members, and most importantly, how to move forward as a community. The immediate effects on the National Trails System can be seen below.

If you registered for the Virtual Issue Briefings this week, we encourage you to attend. During these briefings, you will hear from experts about what is going on at the federal level and learn how you– as individuals and organizations– can take action and make an impact. Looking ahead, this year’s Hike the HillⓇ is more important than ever. It is essential that the trail’s community is heard in person.
If you are unable to travel to Washington, DC, we encourage you to go to your local congressional office during Hike the HillⓇ to emphasize the importance of the National Trails System, and how these decisions are impacting you, your community, and local businesses. The collective effort of the PNTS community is necessary in protecting and advocating for the National Trails System.
