On June 25, Montgomery, New Jersey, welcomed George Washington, the Comte de Rochambeau, and Colonel Stephen Moylan on horseback during its annual Independence Day Fireworks event.
The historical interpreters mingled with attendees and shared stories about Montgomery’s connections to the American Revolution. American and French forces passed through the community during several important campaigns, including marches connected to the Battle of Princeton, Morristown, the Battle of Monmouth, and the journey to Yorktown.
Montgomery has been designated a priority Victory Town in recognition of its place in this history. The community is expected to unveil a new Victory Town marker later this summer or fall, creating another visible connection between Montgomery and the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail.
