SUMMARY:Fishawack Festival 2024 featuring W3R-NJ
DESCRIPTION:W3R-NJ will have a presence at this year’s Fishawack Festival in downtown Chatham\, NJ on June 8th. \n\nGeneral George Washington\, represented by Sam Davis\, will also be making an appearance. \n\nJulie Diddell\, W3R-NJ Chair reports that “Chatham\, NJ is one of our trail town partners since it is located on the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail.” At this year’s Fishawack Festival\, W3R-NJ is helping to educate the public about the military tactic taken in August 1781\, when George Washington ordered bread ovens built on the east side of Chatham\, as part of the ruse de guerre\, to deceive the British into thinking that Washington would soon attack Manhattan. Instead\, the armies picked up and made their way to Yorktown\, VA to lay siege and forced the British to surrender.\nThe name Fishawack is derived from the early settler’s interpretation of the Lenni-Lenape’s reference to the Passaic River which forms Chatham’s eastern boundary. The Chatham Historical Society\, a W3R-NJ member\,  celebrates its  Centennial this year with the festival being one of their signature events.
