W3R-US, in partnership with the Maryland Veterans Museum and Port Tobacco Chapter, NSDAR, proudly hosted the Rochambeau Reception—an evening celebrating Franco-American history and the approaching 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.
Dr. Iris de Rode served as the keynote speaker. An esteemed historian, Dr. de Rode is prominently featured in the new Ken Burns documentary The American Revolution, and her research on the French role in America’s fight for independence continues to gain national attention.
During the program, Dr. de Rode was awarded the DAR America 250! Commendation Medal in recognition of her outstanding contributions to preserving and interpreting Revolutionary War history. The medal was presented by Port Tobacco Chapter America 250! Chair, Margaret Larrick. In attendance for the presentation were National Franco-American Chair Patricia Maclay, National Vice Chair Stacey Park, Maryland State America 250! Chairs Bliss Kaye and Louise Devanny, and Maryland State Franco-American Chair Elaine Lawton . Dr. de Rode wore her medal proudly.
W3R-US consultant Brad Fay conducted a live interview with Dr. de Rode, offering guests an engaging conversation about her work and its significance. Fay also discussed the Victory Towns initiative, introducing dignitaries and interested participants from Maryland and Virginia who are exploring ways to take part in the program. He further supported the event by bringing W3R-US merchandise, which was enthusiastically received and sold remarkably well. The Rochambeau wine was enjoyed by all.
The program showcased strong community collaboration, featuring a performance by the Charles County Youth Orchestra and participation from W3R-US representatives, the SARThomas Stone Chapter, and the 1st Maryland Regiment. The event highlighted ongoing efforts to educate the public, honor America’s Revolutionary heritage, and strengthen partnerships across historical and patriotic organizations.
The event produced a sizable donation to W3R-US for supporting National Projects and initiatives.
